Moving Inventory

Moving inventory describes the process of moving inventory internally.  Purchase Orders and Sales Order also move inventory, but this article is about moving inventory within your company.  There are two ways to do this:

From one bin location in a warehouse to another bin location in the same warehouse.  This is covered in the Replenishment article.

From one warehouse to another warehouse.  This is covered in the Transferring Inventory article.

Differentiating between replenishing and transferring is easy when multiple warehouses are a great distance apart (e.g. different parts of the country).  However, when a warehouse is close by or even when multiple warehouse buildings exist at a single site, then the difference between replenishing and transferring becomes less distinct.  As a rule of thumb, if the inventory leaves a building via the shipping dock and enters another building via the receiving dock, then use the Transferring method.

If the distinction is not clear, then pick one method and be consistent.
